Sleigh bells ringing, voices singing, stockings hung with care ? all the joys of Christmas! Until ?Uncle Eddie? ? that oh so favored Uncle from Christmas Vacation ? shows up at your door step to partake of your eggnog.
While Hallmark shows us the compassionate, tear-jerking, life changing moments often associated with Christmas, this joyous season can also be one of tremendous stress for many. Case in point, just a quick search on Bing for ?Christmas Stress? bubbles up articles from Forbes, USA Today and Kansas City.com all around avoiding holiday stress, mostly caused by too many parties and family.
Whether you suffer from Christmas party overload or unexpected visits from out-of-town relatives, here?s the secret to an enjoyable Christmas ? take the bull by the horns: manage your social calendar on your terms and invite your family home ? on your terms?virtually.
I know ? for some of you I may sound a bit like Scrooge and a tech-head, but here?s the deal: Christmas is meant to be enjoyable. And while I?m a social guy and love gatherings, I?m not a fan of traffic, long lines, and long family gatherings; I like ?my time? and ?my family time? during the season.
Believe it or not, I think technology can actually help you and me capture back some of ?our time.?
Tough assumption when many of us get absorbed by or lost in Facebook, Twitter and the like and we see our kids assimilated into their handheld devices. But, much like video conferencing has helped save me from many airports and long flights, I think the use of technology can actually buy us all back some of our time around Christmas.
So, to prove this out, over the next few weeks I?ll be cataloguing how the use of technology ? specifically video conferencing through SKYPE with Sony?s 46? LED HX750 Internet TV ? is actually making my holiday season more enjoyable?or not. I?ll provide you a few updates on ?how it?s going? and whether or not my assumption is off-base. I?ll ?invite? my friends and extended family to enjoy my living room virtually and share with you my unabridged thoughts.
Before I close, here is the fine print: I?m a longtime Sony fan, one of their agencies loaned me a TV to test this theory and I expect Sony?s Internet TV won?t disappoint. That being said, I?ll be fair and balanced, just know I?m a Sony fan going into this.
Bottom line: I may find this ?invite people into my living room? using my TV a bit awkward or disruptive, but what I can tell you already is that my youngest daughter LOVES seeing herself on the big screen!
